Your mission

At planqc, we are building scalable quantum computers based on neutral atoms. Making this technology accessible to users requires a robust software platform that connects quantum hardware, simulators, and cloud-based applications.

As a Quantum Software Engineer – Fullstack, you will help develop the software that enables researchers and industry partners to interact with planqc’s quantum computing systems. Your mission is to build and maintain the platform components that connect our hardware and simulators with user-facing applications and services.

Working across the full software stack, you will contribute to developing backend services, APIs, and frontend interfaces that support reliable and scalable access to quantum computing resources. By collaborating closely with our hardware, algorithm, and software teams, you will help ensure that advanced quantum technology can be accessed through intuitive and robust software systems.

This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy working across backend services, web applications, and distributed software systems, and who are motivated by contributing to the infrastructure that enables real users to explore and apply quantum computing.

Your responsibilities
  • Develop new features and tests for platform software components using Python (backend) and React (frontend).
  • Contribute to the design, implementation, testing, and maintenance of software supporting planqc’s quantum computing systems.
  • Implement and maintain backend APIs and frontend components to support scalable and user-friendly applications.
  • Improve code structure, readability, performance, and reliability to maintain production-quality software.
  • Support the integration of platform services into planqc’s broader software stack, ensuring stable and efficient system operation.
  • Follow modern software engineering practices including version control, code reviews, automated testing, and documentation.
  • Document software components and features consistently during development.
  • Collaborate closely with team members and share knowledge across the engineering organization.
  • Continuously expand your understanding of new technologies and the fundamentals of quantum computing systems.
What you bring
  • 1–3 years of experience in professional software development.
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
  • Proficiency in two or more programming languages, such as Python, TypeScript, Rust, C++, C, or Java.
  • Initial experience with web frontend development using frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD workflows, unit testing, and version control (Git).
  • Hands-on experience with containerization technologies such as Docker.
  • Strong motivation to learn new technologies and continuously improve your engineering skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Fluent in English and German (C1 level).
  • Valid work authorization for Germany or the EU, and willingness to work on-site in the Munich area.
Nice to have
  • Experience working in agile software development environments such as Scrum.
  • Contributions to open-source projects or personal technical software projects.
  • Experience with gRPC-based services.
  • Familiarity with quantum software frameworks such as Qiskit, Cirq, or PennyLane.
What characterizes you
  • You are a collaborative team player who enjoys working across disciplines and organizations.
  • You take ownership of your work and are motivated to contribute to impactful engineering projects.
  • You are curious about quantum technologies and emerging computing paradigms.
  • You approach technical challenges with pragmatism and a strong focus on quality.
  • You value clear communication, knowledge sharing, and constructive feedback within a team.
Why join planqc

At planqc, we are building scalable quantum computers based on neutral atoms, one of the most promising approaches to realizing practical quantum advantage. Achieving this requires a team that combines deep expertise in quantum physics, engineering, software development, and business operations, working closely together to solve some of the most challenging problems in modern computing.

Joining planqc means becoming part of a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary team where researchers and engineers work side by side to turn cutting-edge ideas into real technology. You will have the opportunity to take real ownership of your work, contribute to critical systems, and see your solutions directly impact the development of next-generation quantum computers.

We aim to create an environment where people can grow, stay curious, and do their best work. This includes supporting professional development through trainings, conferences, and learning opportunities, offering health and wellbeing benefits, and providing the flexibility needed to balance focused work with personal life. As a growing deep-tech company, we also offer the chance to take on responsibility early and help shape both our technology and our culture.

We believe that building breakthrough technology requires curiosity, openness, and strong collaboration and we are looking for people who are excited to grow with us while shaping the future of computing.

If you’re excited about building software platforms that bring quantum computing to real users, we’d love to hear from you.
About us

planqc builds neutral-atom quantum computers based on arrays of optically trapped atoms controlled with high-precision laser systems. Our platform combines technologies from optical lattice clocks, quantum gas microscopes and fast Rydberg gates into a scalable computing architecture.

Founded in 2022 as a spin-off from MPQ and LMU Munich, we translate more than a decade of AMO research into deployable quantum systems. Our work spans vacuum and laser hardware, control electronics, firmware, system software and algorithm integration. We focus on turning complex experimental setups into stable, reproducible systems that operate in real computing environments.

Behind this technology is a team that pushes technical boundaries, values open exchange and shared ownership. Physicists, engineers, software developers and business specialists work closely together, often across disciplinary limits. We believe progress comes from combining deep expertise with practical engineering and from giving people the responsibility and trust to shape their domain.

As we grow across our locations in Garching, Ulm and Innsbruck, we continue to build an environment we continue to build a company where people take ownership, learn from each other, and directly shape the systems we bring into operation.
