About Biomatter

Biomatter designs enzymes that never existed in nature - proteins that were, until recently, impossible to create. They're already at work in health, food, agriculture, and sustainable manufacturing: companies like BASF, Thermo Fisher, and Kirin build their products on enzymes we designed.

Behind this is our platform, which combines state-of-the-art AI with our own wet laboratory. Algorithms design new proteins, the lab builds and tests them, and every experiment makes the next design better. That's why our team spans software engineers, AI researchers, and scientists at the bench.

The role

We're looking for a hands-on, detail-oriented Biotechnologist to execute our standardized research and enzyme engineering workflows - protein expression, purification and processing - and to generate the data our design cycle runs on.

You'll be trained on our protocols and then own them: running them precisely, repeatedly and to the same standard every time, so results stay comparable from batch to batch. Supporting scientists on their experiments and keeping the lab ready is part of the job, but the core of the role is reliable execution of established workflows at volume.

What you will do
Run standardized high-throughput enzyme engineering workflows:
  • Express proteins following established protocols

  • Purify and process proteins using standardized methods and automated robotic systems

  • Prepare and run plate-based assays, from manual processing of single plate to hundreds of plates with liquid handler

  • Execute each run to the same standard, at the throughput the design cycle needs

Keep the workflows reproducible:
  • Follow written protocols exactly, and flag where a step is ambiguous or drifting

  • Keep precise records of what was run, when, and with which materials and lot numbers

  • Track material usage and make sure reagents, plates and consumables are in place before a run starts

  • Spot when a run doesn't look right, do basic troubleshooting and escalate to scientists when needed

  • Help turn new procedures into repeatable, documented workflows as the lab scales

Support scientists and keep the lab running:
  • Prepare standard laboratory consumables and solutions with consistent quality

  • Assist with specific steps in lab workflows during their development

  • Maintain general laboratory order

  • Other on-demand tasks

What we are looking for
  • Precision and consistency - you can run the same protocol the same way many times and get the same result

  • Comfort with repetitive, hands-on lab work and with the discipline of following a protocol exactly

  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills - you keep track of many small moving parts without losing accuracy

  • Willingness to be trained on our workflows and then run them independently, and to learn more advanced techniques over time

  • Background in life sciences (biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, chemistry or similar) and/or prior hands-on lab experience

  • Basic working knowledge of lab safety and chemical handling

  • A team-oriented mindset - you work closely with scientists and speak up early when something looks off

  • Ability to communicate in both Lithuanian and English

Nice to have
  • Prior experience with protein expression, purification and quantification

  • Prior experience with plate-based assays, plate readers, liquid handlers or automated purification systems

  • Experience working to SOPs, or in a standardized, high-throughput or QC environment

  • Experience preparing laboratory-grade solutions and/or standard consumables like agarose gels, agar plates, etc.

What we offer
  • Salary 2000-2400 EUR gross per month, depending on experience, plus private health insurance.

  • Hands-on training across a wide range of lab techniques, in a lab moving towards automation

  • A growing lab and team with room to take on more responsibility as you build your skills

  • Working alongside scientists on a platform that has already put AI-designed enzymes into the hands of some of the largest companies in the world
